Welcome to the higher izakaya. Yamagen, the venerable Japanese restaurant at QT Gold Coast, has a captivating new appearance. Three distinct zones now tempt visitors: sleek bar, intimate sushi counter and watermelon-coloured dining room. On the menu are tempura bugs, prawn noodle dumplings and rarefied Wagyu steaks prepared over coals. The bar serves top-shelf sakés, Japanese whiskies and inventive cocktails, such as the Dragon Ball with shochu, pomegranate liqueur, yuzu and egg white. It’s wasabi-hot.
