Wel­come to the higher iza­kaya. Ya­m­a­gen, the ven­er­a­ble Ja­panese res­tau­rant at QT Gold Coast, has a cap­ti­vat­ing new ap­pear­ance. Three dis­tinct zones now tempt visitors: sleek bar, in­ti­mate sushi counter and wa­ter­melon-coloured din­ing room. On the menu are tem­pura bugs, prawn noo­dle dumplings and rar­efied Wagyu steaks pre­pared over coals. The bar serves top-shelf sakés, Ja­panese whiskies and in­ven­tive cock­tails, such as the Dragon Ball with shochu, pome­gran­ate liqueur, yuzu and egg white. It’s wasabi-hot.
