Wom­boota car, bus crash

District Ru­ral Fire Ser­vice vol­un­teers were called to as­sist fol­low­ing a col­li­sion be­tween a car and a bus at Wom­boota on Box­ing Day.

NSW Ru­ral Fire Ser­vice Mid Mur­ray Zone com­mu­nity safety of­fi­cer Doug Adam­son said the ac­ci­dent oc­curred on Per­ri­coota Rd.

He said luck­ily the im­pacts of the crash were min­i­mal.

‘‘No one was in­jured in the in­ci­dent. Both the NSW Am­bu­lance ser­vice and po­lice were on the scene, and we were there to help make sure ev­ery­one in­volved was okay.’’

Three RFS trucks and eight fire­fight­ers re­sponded to the call at 10.54am Tues­day.

A de­fec­tive power line was to blame for two grass­fires at Ricemill Rd and Ceme­tery Rd in De­niliquin last Fri­day.

De­niliquin NSW Fire and Res­cue Cap­tain Martin Smith said two trucks and seven fire­fight­ers at­tended the scene, ar­riv­ing shortly af­ter 9.30pm.

‘‘We were able to con­tain both fires to about 50 me­tres by 100 me­tres, and the fire took place on grass­lands, so there was no ma­jor dam­age to the area,’’ Capt Smith said.

A faulty pow­er­pole fuse started a blaze at the cor­ner of Law­son Syphon Rd and Four Post Rd in De­niliquin on Mon­day.

Three RFS units, two trucks and 15 fire­fight­ers at­tended the fire shortly af­ter 3.30pm. It burned an area about 200m by 100m be­fore be­ing con­tained.
