Blighty grand final
The Blighty Football Netball Club will be the home of the Picola & District Football Netball League North-West division grand final in 2017.
The decision was made a few years back that all clubs in the competition should share hosting the decider and the club which hosts a preliminary final will host the grand final two years later.
Club president Chris Haynes is a huge supporter of the new system.
‘‘It makes it fair on every club and keeps everyone happy,’’ he said.
‘‘We hosted the prelim in 2015, had a year off hosting any finals this year and now get the big one next year.
‘‘I’m excited for our club to hold it and it’s a good excuse to add more improvements to the club.’’
The main projects at the forefront for the Redeyes are to upgrade the timekeepers’ area and to get an electronic scoreboard installed.
‘‘Every other club seems to have the electronic scoreboards now so we want to keep up with the times,’’ Haynes said.
‘‘We’re hoping to have similar success from a club viewpoint when we hosted the grand final in 2009.
‘‘There were near record numbers and everything ran smoothly that day so hopefully I can get the same support the club had then.’’
The club took more than $28,000 at the gate the last time it hosted the decider with the bar and canteen also quite successful.
With Blighty’s central location within the division it makes for an ideal venue for supporters to attend.
‘‘We have some of the best facilities in the league and we’ve proven we can cater for the event.
‘‘I’d like to thank the committee, the Council and the community for all the hard work they do for the club.
‘‘Let’s hope it can be a home grand final for the senior side.’’
