Comp. that gives a toss about carp

-

You’re only allowed to throw dead carp back into the water, and a Deni Show competition is offering anglers the ideal practice.

With the annual show a week away, now is the time to master the art of ‘fish throwing’ for the Charlie Carp toss competition.

The show is held the first weekend of March, and 2017 marks the second year the carp toss competition will be held.

The challenge is simple, but not as easy as it sounds: throw a frozen carp the furthest.

The event, which includes a senior and junior competition for males and females, is sponsored by Deniliquin’s Charlie Carp.

The winners in each category will take home a hand-crafted trophy made by competition steward John Russell, and a litre of Charlie Carp fertiliser.

‘‘The competition is good fun and people really enjoy watching it,’’ Mr Russell said.

Each category in the contest has a different size carp. In 2016, records for the toss were set at 12.1 metres for ladies, 17 metres for the men and 28 metres for the juniors.

For more details phone Mr Russell on 5881 3607.
