The Goulburn Valley Croquet Association 2017 Golf Croquet Open Tournament was played in Shepparton last week.

Deniliquin’s John James won the division one against strong opposition.

Last Sunday croquet was played in two sections in Deniliquin. Eight players played singles and two players won their three games.

Allan Tonta and Jill Tainsh both scored 25 hoops but Allan won the day on countback.

Seven players played two games of doubles. Joan McCalman was the only player to win both games with 15 hoops.

Jill Tainsh ran a handy hoop-in-one and there were six successful jump shots for the day. Brad Fawns had two, Dot Murphy, Allan Tanota, Bevis Pearn and Andy Davis each scored one.

The singles championships will be played next Wednesday March 1 and will be handicapped play.

The doubles will be played on Sunday March 5 and will be drawn partners.

Both days will start at 8am and players need to bring lunch each day.

Players are reminded to bring their handicap cards to croquet this Sunday so that the draws for the championships may be done.

On Wednesday only 11 players took to the courts.

Three players won their three games. Brad Fawns and Gwen Pearn both scored 26 hoops but Brad won the day on a countback. John Tainsh was close behind with 25.

Two players with good scores despite losing one game were Andy Davis with 22 and Marg Telford with 21 hoops.

There was great excitement with Judy Barry scoring her first successful jump shot. Bevis Pearn and Brad Fawns each had two for the day.
