New space for council meetings

-

Since the merger of Deniliquin Council and Conargo Shire councils, the local advisory committee has held its meetings in different locations across the region, including Pretty Pine, Conargo, Deni and Blighty.

Council communications officer Cian Middleton said although this has allowed for a wider range of participation from local residents, it has been challenging for committee members.

This will be alleviated by new Council Chambers.

‘‘The new chambers will allow us to have a permanent location for meetings,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s a proper meeting space that will be beneficial to the council.’’

Mr Middleton also said the new council chambers provide greater access for residents.

‘‘Council meetings at Civic Place weren’t very accommodating — it didn’t provide great access for those with disability, or mothers with prams, as meetings were held upstairs.

‘‘The new chamber has easy access for everyone, with both a ramp and a disabled toilet — it’s a much more welcoming and friendly environment.’’

Council meetings are held monthly at 12.30pm, and members of the public are welcome to attend as observers.
