Truck Show tomorrow

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - COMMUNITY NEWS -

If you like ‘big boys toys’, Deniliquin’s Memorial Park is the place for you tomorrow.

The third annual Deniliquin Truck Show and Industry Expo gets started from 10am, and organising committee president Leesa Muir said it will be the biggest yet.

‘‘We’re hoping we may get about 2000 people through the gates, considering the interest we have received for this year’s event,’’ Ms Muir said.

‘‘We’ll have lots of ‘big boys toys’ on display, and there will be much more to see and do than in previous years.

‘‘We have so much to do for the whole family — there’s a truck show and shine, a bike show and shine, children’s entertainment including sideshow rides, trade displays, industry information, technology and more.

‘‘The site is looking great, and the weather prediction is also looking good.

‘‘It is shaping up to be our biggest show yet, and it’s just one part of a huge weekend to celebrate the transport industry in the Southern Riverina and across Australia.’’

After the gates close at Memorial Park tomorrow evening, the celebration will move to the adjacent Denili- quin Golf Club where the ‘After Party’ will feature music from One OB from 6pm.

The weekend’s activities kick off with the Deniliquin & District Transport Wall of Fame Induction Dinner tonight.

More than 200 people will attend the event, where inductions into the local industry’s Wall of Fame will be made.

The guest speakers at tonight’s dinner are Oxford Cold Storage transport manager Jacquelene Brotherton and Deniliquin Police Highway Patrol Sergeant Steven Bloomfield who also has a background as a cartoonist for Trucking Life magazine.

The weekend will close with a special memorial service from 11am on Sunday. It will be held at the Davidson St Rest Stop in north Deniliquin, where the Wall of Fame monument doubles as a memorial wall.

‘‘We wanted to do something to pay tribute to those in the industry no longer with us, and we thought adding a memorial service would be fitting,’’ Ms Muir said.

‘‘It will be a memorable and special ending to a fantastic weekend.’’
