The Deni Rams A grade have booked a place in the preliminary final with a stunning two goal victory over reigning premier, Echuca United.

In an outstanding team effort, the Rams were switched on from the opening whistle and executed their game plan to perfection.

Rams defenders Eliza Eastman and Emily Mildren double-teamed goal shooter Sophie Atkinson with tremendous success.

The Rams mid-court certainly played their role with Amelia Seignior and Laura Biggs working overtime to limit their opponents’ impact on the game.

Natalie Thorpe was again brilliant at WA setting up play with her exceptional use of the ball while shooters Amber Farley and Bec White dominated the goal ring.

The Rams are now just one game away from the grand final, taking on Tongala in a preliminary final in Cobram on Saturday.

Final score, Deni Rams 45 to Echuca Utd 42.

Deni’s defensive pressure down the court caused the most damage in forcing mistakes from United, who despite looking to get a run-on at different stages were never able to draw back the margin, the Rams leading 14 to 6 at quarter-time.

Deniliquin pushed the margin out to 11 goals during the second quarter before United came back to be within six goals at half-time, 18-24.

The Rams increased the margin back to eight by three-quarter time, 28-36, before the Eagles made a late charge back.

Deni coach Jodie Sefton said Echuca took some risks late that began to pay off.

‘‘All you need is a couple of turnovers and you’re back in the game,’’ she said.

‘‘They took some risks and made some changes but our girls were able to do enough to get the job done.

‘‘The attitude of the girls was right from the start and it was a massive team effort.

‘‘Echuca certainly got their game going at the latter part of the season so we knew we had a big battle on our hands.

‘‘We were switched on early and it was our first three quarters that set up the win.

‘‘It’s exciting to be in the prelim again this year (after making it last year), so hopefully we can go at least one better this time.’’
