Sutton scores 47 in fine round
There was a strong field making up four grades in Saturday’s stableford event.
Star round of the day was Mick Sutton who scored a massive 47 points to win D grade from runner-up Ali Ferguson on 44. Ali can consider herself desperately unlucky, because it’s a rare occurrence to have 44 and not take the winner’s prize.
Scores were moderate in other grades. A grade winner was David ‘Digger’ Ring with 37 from Peter Joice on 35; B grade Wayne Hodgson 39 from Tom Wettenhall 37, and C grade Dan Wade on countback from Andy Malin, both with 37.
On Monday the annual Seniors Tournament was played, with numbers down on previous years due to clashing tournaments in nearby towns.
The A grade winner was John Radeski with 38 points, from Noel Nicholas on 34, and in B grade John Metcalfe scored 39 to beat John Irwin by a shot.
The club would like to thank our tournament sponsors, Mitre 10, Ace Golf Carts, Francis Kelly and Grant, and Hayes Plumbing.
On Wednesday the A grade winner was Norm Purtill with 39 points, from Tony Lugsdin on 38, and in B grade Des Ramsey had 41 and beat Don Alexander on countback.
There is plenty of golf coming up, with single stableford tomorrow and a 12 hole event on Sunday.
The following Sunday is Tee Up For Cancer charity day, with four person am- brose (non-handicap golfers welcome) and proceeds to the Deniliquin branch of CanAssist. An entry sheet is in the pro shop.
Tonight will be rocking at the club with the annual Blind Footy Tipping Dinner, and it will also see the return of Friday night meals at the club. If you are planning a Friday night out in coming months head down to your golf club to ensure this service remains viable.
Finally, when you see ‘Billy’ Bourke, you may like to ask why he decided to go for a dip in the dam between the 10th and 18th fairways. Most players thought it was a bit cool, but then again, they didn’t have a wallet and phone to chase.
