Lions’ sell-out raffle
After selling all of its allocated raffle tickets, the Deniliquin Lions Club has once again been able to donate $1000 to the Lions International Cord Blood Foundation Inc.
The local Lions raffled off a $300 Deniliquin Central IGA voucher throughout September.
Drawn Thursday last week, it was won by Terry Coleman.
Deniliquin Lions member Geoff Riley said the club runs the raffle every year, to specifically support the cord blood charity.
The charity supports a medical process where cord blood is taken from umbilical cords after birth and is made available to people suffering from leukaemia and other blood disorders.
The foundation specifically raises funds to provide equipment and storage tanks for this process.
‘‘The Lions Club moved to donate all proceeds from our fundraiser to the charity. We sold 1000 tickets at $1 each.
‘‘All costs to run the raffle are met by the Lions Club and Deniliquin Central IGA, which has been very generous.
‘‘Terry Coleman was thrilled to bits when I contacted him to tell him he’d won.
‘‘So many people just buy tickets without even knowing what the prize is; they just want to help.’’
