Help on McHappy Day

Locals are being encouraged to show their support to help provide vital services for seriously ill children and their families at the annual McDonald’s McHappy Day event this Saturday at the Deniliquin restaurant.

You can make a big difference in the life of a young person simply by donning the iconic red Ronald McDonald socks, forming a ‘Bucket Brigade’ to raise valuable funds or even just by enjoying a famous Big Mac.

Every cent raised on the day will go towards the Ronald McDonald House Charity, which provides invaluable programs and services including Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, Ronald McDonald Family Retreats and the Ronald McDonald Learning Program.

McDonald’s Deniliquin owner/operator Scott Moller says he is a ‘‘massive advocate’’ for the charity, having utilised the Wodonga-based family accommodation service when his third child, Charlotte, was born.

‘‘The charity supports young children with families, which is valuable because you never know when you’re going to need a bit of help,’’ he said.

‘‘You don’t have to worry about tracking down a motel, beds or a shower — it takes some of the stress away and allows you to just be with your family. The funds raised really benefit people when they need it most.’’

In its 26th year, the 2017 McHappy Day has a fundraising goal of a record-breaking $4.1 million across Australia.

‘‘Two dollars from every Big Mac sold on McHappy Day will go directly to RMHC. Donations can also be made to one of the Bucket Brigades who be out in full force,’’ Mr Moller said.

Locals can also get involved by donning a pair of the iconic Ronald McDonald socks available for $3, or buying a ‘Helping Hand’ for $2.
