Marquees prove popular at local Caulfield Cup race day
The local race track is nice and green and the Deniliquin Racing Club has taken a record number of marquee package bookings, pointing to a massive Caulfield Cup race day in Deniliquin next weekend.
Deniliquin Racing Club secretary Belinda Weibye said punters can expect a quality day out on Saturday, October 21.
It features a six race card, including the coveted Deniliquin Cup.
Ms Weibye said the trackside action is equally attractive, and that all the fun is available for an unchanged entry price of $20.
‘‘Our Caulfield Cup Day races in Deni grow in popularity with locals, tourists and the racing fraternity every year and this year’s race day promises to be no exception,’’ Ms Weibye said.
‘‘The Deni Race Club takes pride in supporting country meetings and the trainers, owners and jockeys, as well as up and coming horses.
‘‘Over the years some top class horses have had their initiation racing in Deniliquin. These include Craftsman, Paignton, Commission Red and Sir Boom, to name just a few.
‘‘This year the marquee packages are proving popular; the extended, grassed hill affords excellent, uninterrupted viewing around the track. The undercover betting shed houses the on-site bookies, national race coverage and TAB facilities.
‘‘There will be free entertainment for the kids, wheelbarrow raffles and the ever popular Fashions On The Field.
‘‘A free bus service shuttles to and from town, so stay around after the last race and enjoy live music with ‘Gomer & The Girl’.’’
Ms Weibye said the most watched trackside event at the Deniliquin Caulfield Cup Day race meet is the Fashions on the Field.
There will be categories for young racegoers, men and ladies.
After the success of last year’s competition, Ms Weibye confirmed the separate category and prize for ‘Best Ladies Headpiece Exhibiting Millinery Excellence’ has been retained.
