The fifth round of the Martha Challen Cup com­pe­ti­tion was played on Sun­day.

Twelve play­ers took part, and Al­lan Tonta was the only three game win­ner. He won the round and the three points with 23 hoops.

Three play­ers won two games. Gwen Pearn scored 25 hoops, Mary James 23 and Carol Borella 21.

Andy Davis had three suc­cess­ful jump shots, and Jill Tainsh had one.

In the GVCA Golf Cro­quet Pen­nant com­pe­ti­tion last week, the Deni Di­a­monds had a good win over Nu­murkah Blues — nine games, 75 hoops to three games, 55 hoops.

At Nu­murkah, a very close match re­sulted in a win for the Deni Gems. At six games all, it came down to hoops with Deni scor­ing 68 to Nu­murkah’s 64.

On Oc­to­ber 19, the Deni Gems are at home against Echuca-Moama Greens. The Di­a­monds have the bye.

Sev­en­teen play­ers lined up for cro­quet on Wed­nes­day. John James was the only three game win­ner, with a great score of 28 hoops.

Six play­ers had good scores de­spite los­ing one game. Dors Peter­son had 24, Al­lan Tonta 22, Theo Walle and Brad Fawns each had 21 hoops and Jill and John Tainsh both had 20 hoops.

Heather Dou­glas, Lor­raine Honey­man and Marg Telford each ran a handy hoop-in­one.

There were eight suc­cess­ful jump shots for the day — Be­vis Pearn, John James and Al­lan Tonta all had two each, and Dors Peter­son and Brad Fawns had one each.

The shot of the day went to John James. He scored a beau­ti­ful hoop right from the base line.

Play­ers are re­minded that Wed­nes­day’s play now com­mences at 9am, for a 9.30am start. If you are likely to be late, please ring some­one to have your name go in the draw.

Sun­day’s play re­mains at 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

The Aus­tralian Open Golf Cro­quet Na­tion­als will be played at De­niliquin from Novem­ber 6 to 10.
