Per­mit burn haze

Smoke which wafted over the town­ship of De­niliquin on Fri­day night was from a se­ries of per­mit burns, ac­cord­ing to the Ru­ral Fire Ser­vice.

Mid-Mur­ray Zone dis­trict of­fi­cer Phil Bruns­don said of the 10 per­mits is­sued for stub­ble burns, six were in the De­niliquin area.

He said it re­sulted in smoke drift­ing over the town, but con­firmed none of the burns were out of con­trol.

Kitchen fire

De­niliquin’s NSW Fire & Res­cue bri­gade was called to the South­ern Cross Care Orana apart­ments yes­ter­day morn­ing to ex­tin­guish a stove-top fire.

Cap­tain Martin Smith said the fire was in the com­mon area kitchen of the aged care fa­cil­ity in Napier St.

Fire­fight­ers ex­tin­guished the small blaze quickly and ven­ti­lated the area, all be­fore 9am.

Res­i­dents and staff were evac­u­ated dur­ing the in­ci­dent.
