Build your foundations with prayer

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - NEWS - ~ Contributed by Father Line Abilgos of St Michael’s Catholic Church, on behalf of the Combined Churches of Deniliquin.

‘‘Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself . . .’’

There was a saying that, ‘if you want to build high, first, dig deep’. I am not an engineer, but I was a builder. In my younger days, I would go with my father or with my elder brother to build homes and even work in the building construction sites.

I had been in this kind of work before I entered the seminary.

To build homes or a tower, it needs a strong foundation.

Jesus spent the night in prayer to God before He chose His disciples.

In fact, He immersed Himself in prayer before making any decision or mission.

His whole, though He was God, was founded on His relationship with His Father which He nurtured and nourished in prayer.

Without prayer (digging deep), all our work (building high) is in vain, empty and self-serving.

Without prayer, we begin to believe that life is all about us.
