Rolled car catches fire off highway
Mathoura’s Rural Fire Service brigade worked for about two hours to contain a fire in a rolled car on the Cobb Highway at Mathoura on Wednesday night.
The car rolled 1km north of the Walliston Rd turnoff about 10pm.
NSW Rural Fire Service spokesman Phil Brunsdon said it was believed all occupants were able to get out of the car before the fire started.
He did not have any details on the number of passengers, or where they are from.
Mathoura brigade Senior Deputy Captain Chris Glenn said the car was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and had spread into nearby grassland and had ignited one tree.
He said seven firefighters worked to control the blaze for ‘‘a couple of hours’’.
Dept Capt Glenn said ambulance paramedics were on the scene to treat the car’s occupants.
