Building a brilliant career

-

Deniliquin’s Lachie MacDonald is building a strong career as a local tradesman.

The Precise Build apprentice has claimed two major awards in recent weeks.

The first was the Best First Year Apprentice in Building accolade at the Bendigo TAFE Awards which he followed up by receiving a similar gong at the Master Builders Victoria Awards held Wednesday last week.

Lachie had previously started a business and commerce degree at Bendigo University and took on some labouring work for Rob Dixon and his Precise Build team during school holidays. But the former Deni High student quickly fell in love with the carpentry trade.

Lachie decided to switch careers, trading his uni studies for Bendigo TAFE paired with his new apprenticeship.

‘‘I love the work and have a great crew and a great boss,’’ he said.

‘‘I think surrounding yourself with the right people is key to doing a great job; they make it really enjoyable and we all work well together which definitely makes it easier to get good results.

‘‘It’s almost unreal that I received this award.’’
