Twilight tennis has wet start

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - SPORT -

Rain leading up to the first round of the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club’s Twilight comp and dark clouds on the evening made for soft courts and the odd low bounce.

Creaking bodies and some new players not having been graded into their best spot saw some miss matches.

Mitre 10 led by Kate Paton and Jon Gatacre had a strong win over Legal Eagles.

The score was 16 sets and 106 games to five sets and 68 games.

Lachlan Holloway, a player stepping out of junior ranks into the seniors, was able to win two of his three sets.

In the match between Agspares and Peppin Planners Agspares won 15 sets and 111 games to seven sets and 84 games.

Mark Ritchie claimed a two sets to one win over John Henderson while his wife Naomi Ritchie won her three sets.

The sausage sizzle stall sold out late in the evening and the supper was much enjoyed.

Round two will be played tomorrow night, with the first round of the Saturday afternoon competition will be held this weekend.
