Speed shear for cancer
Cancer Research and support for locals affected by the disease will be the big winners when Mathoura’s Speed Shear is held next month.
The venue for the third annual event is to be held on Saturday at the Mathoura Recreation Reserve.
The event gathers shearers from all over competing in four shearing categories with a combined total of prize money reaching $12,000, along with the chainsaw competition for both single and team events.
Register for both events at 9.30am for chainsaw competition, starting at 11am, and 1pm for shearing competitions.
As well as all the shearing action there will be food, refreshments and other entertainment including novelty events – the contractors relay and the Trans-tasman between Australia and New Zealand.
There’ll be no shortage of activities for kids on the day, with major sponsor Bendigo Bank monitoring a handball competition, along with a jumping castle, popcorn and fairy floss, and many market stalls for the family to enjoy.
As a part of the charity event they will be holding an auction and raffle with prizes kindly donated by local businesses.
Corey Taylor will also have his head shaved in support of the great fundraising cause.
If you would like to support Corey with a monetary donation, or provide an item to be auctioned on the day, contact Anne Robertson on 0429 843 579
Gold coin donation entry on the day and donations in every form will be gratefully received.
Do not bring your own alcohol to the event.
