Talk to your doc­tor about two new med­i­ca­tions that may help with weight loss and heart health: the SGLT2 in­hibitor and GLP-ana­logue (By­dureon*), a weekly ana­logue in­sulin in­jec­tion. “The SGLT2 works on the kid­ney, and brings sugar out in the urine in­stead of re­turn­ing it to the blood,” says en­docri­nol­o­gist and di­a­betes ex­pert Pro­fes­sor Glen Maberly. “It helps you con­trol di­a­betes bet­ter and also re­duces weight. By­dureon makes the pan­creas pro­duce in­sulin and prompts the brain to say, ‘I don’t need to eat as much’. There’s ev­i­dence both re­duce the chances of heart at­tack by 30 per cent.”
