Find a frame to shoot through

Richard’s picture demonstrates how effectively a frame can spice up a shot. Not only can it help funnel a viewer’s attention to the right place, it can add structure and mask ‘dead’ areas. Frames can be actual frames (such as shooting through a window) or implied, like Richard’s above. They can also be diffuse – try positioning the camera close to flowers and shooting a subject beyond them to add a soft, colourful frame.
