Working with grids

Digital Camera World - - SHOOTOUT -

Honeycomb grids, also known as ‘egg crates’, can be fitted to the front of a light in order to create a more focused beam and prevent light spilling onto other parts of the scene. As you can see, the light is visible through the black grid when viewed head-on, but at an oblique angle the light is obscured. Grids can also be attached to a modifier such as a softbox or a beauty dish, giving you even more control. They add versatility to any lighting kit.
