Unfamiliar perspective
Herbert’s shot is so popular because it provides an unfamiliar perspective of a well-known location. “You can see a part of the ceiling construction above the passageway,” he says. “From the point of view that I photographed, it looked so amazingly good that I wanted to make something special out of the motif.”
Skewed reality
“The lower part of the picture (the corridor) is in reality part of the wall surface,” Herbert says. “I transformed these into a corridor, and rotated the original by 90 degrees to the right so that the wall became the corridor.” By contradicting our expected view in this way, Herbert’s shot becomes instantly more interesting and playful.
Post processing
Editing dictates the overall mood of any image. Here, Herbert used Photoshop and the Nik Filter Collection to create this final high-key result. By lifting the overall exposure and cooling the white balance, he’s generated a shot that’s crisp, clean and almost futuristic in appearance.
