LEADING the way in Canon’s cannon upgrades is the flagship EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM. It’s an understated upgrade, with the same construction (23 elements in 19 groups) as its predecessor, a weight saving of just 10g and just 3.5 stops of image stabilisation. It gets Air Sphere Coating to reduce flaring and ghosting. The price at its August launch is £2,149/$2,099.

The EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM is a more notable upgrade, with a new Image Stabiliser that’s said to be based on the design of the one inside the EF 100400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, giving five stops of shake reduction in contrast with the three stops of its predecessor. Expect to pay £1,299/$1,299 at launch.
