New gear, buying advice and the world's toughest tests

Digital Camera World - - KIT ZONE - Rod Lawton

Do you ever use a handheld meter? I am a bit of a fan – and in this month’s instalment in our Help Me Buy series, I give you some pointers as to what to look for in a meter, and recommend three of my favourite models.

I have also been putting two highperformance system cameras to the test, as Nikon’s D500 DSLR takes on the Fujifilm X-H1 mirrorless model. The results of this head-to-head surprised even me!

In our Mini Tests this issue, we have been looking at some of the best ball heads you can buy for your tripod. And we have been looking at the brave new world of 360 cameras – which almost literally give your eyes in the back of your head.

In our quest to bring you more tests than any other magazine, we have reviews of 10 different lenses this issue. Canon’s major update of its 70-200mm f/4 goes for a spin, and it does not disappoint. We also get our hands on Sigma’s mighty 105mm f/1.4 Art prime – which looks a beauty for portrait photographers. Finally, in our group test, we check out eight different ultra-wide zooms.
