WILD BEASTS – PRESENT TENSE
London-based act Wild Beasts have worked diligently on this, their fourth album, and it shows. While previously they were a lost in the indie rock woods, now it appears the British band has seen the sparkling light of pop. Who knew it was via the neon backstreets of 1980s electro with a dollop of 1990s alternative dance? Perhaps it was their remixing of Lady Gaga’s You And I that set them on a crash course with pop nirvana. Smells like post-teen spirit to us, which ain’t a bad thing! Like the album’s first single Wanderlust (“Don’t confuse me with someone who gives a fuck!” being its best line), Present Tense is bulging at the seams with quirky rock electronica and more than a hint of sexual ambiguity in its skinny jeans.
