VIRTUAL REALITY PORN

YOU’RE IN THE CHANGE ROOM WITH THE HOTTEST GUYS ON THE FOOTBALL TEAM. THE CAPTAIN LOOKS YOU IN THE EYE AND SAYS, “LET’S HAVE SOME FUN.” SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM BUT IT COULD SOON BE A REALITY – VIRTUALLY. MIKE READING EXPLAINS.

Your sex fantasies are closer than you think.

DURING OUR lifetimes we’re going to experience many technological developments that are still unimaginable. One of those, still in its infancy, is VR (Virtual Reality). Once only able to create low-quality environments, VR is now more affordable and increasingly more realistic. How does this tie into our opening scene in the locker room? The adult industry has helped to successfully mainstream tech advances like online streaming video and credit card verification. It is now also a predominant content creator for VR.

VIRTUAL REALIT Y TODAY

There are already quite a few VR porn producers out there that immerse viewers into the action. Multiple cameras can capture either a 180º or a 360º view – each have their own pros and cons. All-round 360º provides a more realistic immersion and you won’t suddenly hit a wall if you turn too far. However, 180º allows the film crew to get closer in on the action and better light the scene. In order to prevent making the viewer dizzy or

disorientated from different angles and editing cuts, the scripts are kept simple and performers complete a scene in a single take, which also keeps viewers from breaking the illusion of reality.

Some VR headsets now retail for as little as $15 with content downloaded directly onto a mobile device, which is then inserted into the headset. The camera tells the story through the eyes of one of the actors, putting the viewer in the jocks, so to speak, of said actor. This gives the viewer a more intimate experience as a seemingly active participant, not simply an observer.

There has always been concern that porn distorts reality by giving unrealistic expectations about our physical assets and sexual prowess. Some have argued that VR, which changes the perspective from voyeur to participant, can give people what they ultimately want: a connection with another person. On the other hand, simulating intimacy with what amounts to a hologram could ultimately only deepen our relationship with technology.

YOU CAN LOOK BUT YOU CAN’T TOUCH

When using a VR headset, it’s instinctive to reach out and touch what’s in front of you. While we might really want to grab onto that peach or eggplant, we can’t do that. Yet.

There are VR gloves that allow users to interact with CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) in gaming platforms. Motion sensors track movement from the gloves to allow manipulation of virtual objects. As VR porn is still simply a video recording, it isn’t possible to interact freely as the video playback is not able to adapt like in a CGI simulation.

AT TACHMENTS ( AND INSERTIONS)

You may be disappointed to learn that you can’t touch just yet, but what’s the next best thing? Getting touched! Thirsty geniuses have developed an array of smart VR sex toys that send you deeper into your favourite fantasy. There are now cam websites where you can use a Fleshlight attachment that allows your movements to be felt by the cam model.

Unfortunately, these are only straight sites so far. I was unable to find any gay versions but that brings me to another device, which works on a similar principle.

Awkward phone sex has been around forever and while it stimulates the imagination, the real time visual was missing. With the advent of video, another sense was fulfilled but the most intimate of all senses, touch, was still missing.

Now couples are able to stay intimate no matter how far apart with the help of some pretty exciting products. My favourite is called Lovense, which has two devices available. There is Max, a Bluetooth masturbator for men similar to a Fleshlight; and Nora: a Bluetooth vibrator.

The toys can be operated via smart phone from anywhere in the world and also by using bi-directional control, which works by sensing and reacting to your partner’s movements. The reason why this is my favourite is because depending on your preference, instead of syncing up a Max and a Nora, you can also sync up two Maxes or two Noras!

AUGMENTED REALIT Y

While couples are apart they can take advantage of products like Lovense but when you’re not stuck on the other side of the world, many couples enjoy watching porn together.

Plain old VR isn’t able to accommodate multiple viewers due to its intimate immersive design. New technology for the porn industry is potentially on the cards if they implement AR (Augmented Reality).

As in the recent Pokemon Go craze, where Pokemon characters appear on your phone’s camera as if in the real world, imagine your dream guy appearing on your coffee table ready to do whatever you ask of him.

AR integrated into VR headsets could allow couples to watch together, and from different perspectives.

With technology the limits are endless and with the current progressions it looks as if it will not be long before we are able to simply plug into another reality and have all our senses incorporated. It’s only a matter of time before someone invents a way to integrate smell and taste into the virtual world, possibly further isolating us from those around us, but definitely enhancing the intimacy of long-distance love.
