As the weather gets colder, it’s a great time to start layering your favourite pieces. It sounds simple, yet it’s taken me years to work out which necklines and sleeve shapes work well together. I find following these quick dos and don’ts makes picking out a really ~stylish~ outfit a whole lot easier, especially when you’re just not sure whether it’s going to be freezing or beach-worthy in an hour’s time!

LAYERING DOS

Pair a long-line coat with shorts or a mini dress. It elongates the legs and makes every ensemble look that little bit more polished. Rock a collared shirt under a straight or scoop-neck sweater. Make sure the collar is on display and the cuffs are folded back. Rock a fitted tee under a strapless top or spaghetti-strap slip. It will keep your midsection warm while also looking super-chic. Wear a fitted turtleneck underneath a sweet collared shirt. Layer denim. But break it up with a different material in between. A chambray shirt, cotton tee and blue jeans make the perfect combo.

AND DON’TS

Working socks with Birkenstocks is a real no. Go for socks and brogues instead! Underestimate the warmth of a sleeveless jacket. Team it with a fitted long-sleeve top. Wear a knit over your pinafore or dungarees – under always looks better and will keep you warmer.
