FROM THE BEAUTY DESK
A love letter to the humble ponytail.
Ever heard of the hair trend called ‘bits’? It got big when I was in about Year 7, though I still insisted on wearing a slicked-to-my-skull pony every damn day. But the cool chicks were doing ‘bits’ – and now they’re back in a big way. ‘Bits’, ‘chunks’ and ‘wisps’ all refer to those two strands of hair you pulled out from your ponytail or messy bun to make it look a little more... farshun. I love the idea of a lived-in pony with lots of hair framing the face, so this season, I’m trying ‘bits’ on again. But this time I’m channelling seriously ‘60s feels in place of early noughties vibes. Think volume, not gelled-down helmet hair! I’ve discovered that it’s the perfect style to try on if you’re not usually the ponytail type. Also, with all the pony inspo Kengi and Hailey Baldwin have been delivering lately, how could you NOT go from top-knot-or-nothing to Ariana Grande-style ponytail obsessed?
