WHAT’S IT LIKE BEING THE LEADING LADY OF SHADOWHUNTERS? It’s a very exciting time to be a young woman in television playing a heroine, ’cos there’s this surge in strong, heroic leading ladies and it’s a great community to be a part of. WHY DO YOU THINK PEEPS ARE SO HOOKED ON THE SHOW? Everyone loves a bit of fantasy and to escape to another world and believe magic exists. But aside from the supernatural elements, this story is really about a bunch of young people growing up and figuring out their place in the world, which is a universal thing. DO YOU FEEL A CONNECTION TO YOUR CHARACTER CLARY? I felt a connection to Clary from the moment I read the script. She’s such a strong, independent young woman, but she’s also flawed; she’s not perfect and she doesn’t always make the right decisions, but that’s what helps her grow. I relate to that. AS AN ADVOCATE FOR ANTI-BULLYING, DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR GIRLS WHO ARE BEING BULLIED? I was bullied as a kid – it’s horrendous. No one should have to go through it. Surround yourself with positive people who build you up instead of tearing you down. The only people you should be listening to are the ones who love and care for you and see you for how special you are. DO YOU HAVE A MESSAGE FOR DOLLY READERS? Yes, I do! There’s a real trend in society right now for teen girls to be perfect and to rise to some standard and be like everyone else, but I think people forget the beauty of individuality. It’s our differences that make us special.

The brand-new season of supernatural series Shadowhunters is coming to Netflix, so we got all the goss from lead star Katherine Mcnamara.
