JCB launches two new compact wheel loaders

JCB Construction Equipment Australia is bringing two new compact wheel loader models to Australia – the 403 and 406ZX.

The 403 is a 2.5-tonne articulated loader suited to confined spaces such as warehouses.

Powered by a 26kW Kubota diesel, the 403 can push out 92Nm of torque. It uses a hydrostatic transmission and offers two travel speeds.

It has a fully enclosed, ergonomically designed operators’ cab, which “provides all-round protection from the elements, dusty working environments and potential hazards,” JCB CEA wheel loaders national product manager Deon Cope says. “Even with the cab fitted, the machine is less than 2.2m tall and only 1.1m wide when narrow tyres are fitted, so it can access the tightest sites.”.

The 406ZX is the larger of the two new wheel loader models and JCB says it has been designed with an optimised power-to-weight ratio to give operators maximum power in the smallest possible package.

The 406ZX’s 36.4kW engine produces 170Nm of torque and has a load over height of 3m, all contained within the loader’s 5.1m x 2.1m frame. The 406ZX is particularly suited to loading trucks on cramped, urban construction sites.

Perhaps the 406ZX’s greatest strength is its ease of use and maintenance. JCB says the simple mechanical diesel engine is straightforward to maintain and the hydrostatic transmission simplifies operation.

“The 406 comes with an easy-maintenance mechanical JCB diesel engine by Kohler, offering powerful performance,” Cope says.

“The design of the machine and engine means its dimensions are compact, which is great for small turning circles.”
