MEASURE Bar chefs Karmen Lu and Amanda Yong will join Irish celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge as part of a stellar lineup at this year’s Variety of Chefs annual event on July 21.
Lu and Yong are among a who’s who of the Perth food industry, including Crown’s Sean Marco and Clarke’s of North Beach’s Stephen Clarke, to cook at the event that features a six-course degustation with sommelier-selected matched wines.
Pastry chef Yong, previously of Wildflower, teamed up with Lu who recently opened her dessert bar in Mt Lawley and was on Masterchef’s last season, said she was delighted to be involved with the event.
“Variety does great work in
the community helping WA disadvantaged children and this is an easy way to help them continue their work and fund raise,” she said.
“As chefs we are always busy with long hours of work; if I just had to take out some time to help people in need in a different way, it’s for a good cause close to my heart.”
Yong and Lu will be in charge of the last course – dessert – and hope to make it a memorable one.
“Measure is Perth’s first small bar to focus on desserts,” Lu said.
“We offer beautifully plated desserts paired with a full bar menu, including finely crafted cocktails.
“We are proud of the precision and attention to detail required every day in not only the food but the way we work.”
As well as Lu and Yong’s show-stopping desserts guests will enjoy pre-dinner drinks, oyster shucking, fine wine, a Thermomix cocktail bar, entertainment and a fundraising auction, as well as a chance to meet the chefs.
Funds raised from the night will help Variety provide practical equipment and experiences for WA children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
Amanda Yong and Karmen Lu from Measure Bar are two of the chefs taking part in the Variety of Chefs dinner this year.
