Australia Day online survey
TOWN of Bassendean residents are invited to have their say on the future of the Town’s Australia Day events.
An online community survey available for residents to complete until Wednesday, October 18, could include changes to the Town’s flagship event, which began in 2005.
According to a Town spokesman, the survey would give the council the opportunity to measure the overall effectiveness of the event, investment by the Town and risks associated with staging it.
“Each year since 2005, the Town of Bassendean has staged an Australia Day Celebrations and Fireworks event,” he said.
“The Town is respectful and aware of the sentiment that exists within some sections of the community of the sensitivity of celebrating Australia Day on January 26 each year.
“Consulting with the community will ensure that the council has the conversation to decide the best direction to take regarding the event and to ensure that the Town’s significant investment is valued by ratepayers and relevant to the community.”
The spokesman said any changes to the day would not come into effect until 2019 and plans for next year’s event would include fireworks and citizenship ceremonies at Ashfield Reserve,
