SARAH Brown (“Slippery slope”, October 3) has misunderstood.
Much as one may disagree with the Muslims in allowing men to have four wives but not vice versa, they have actually preserved more of the traditional structure of marriage than is the case with same-sex unions.
One thing that has been agreed upon by all cultures since time immemorial is that marriage involves male-female bond.
If we can eliminate something so fundamental - and yet still call the union a marriage - how much more can we eliminate aspects of marriage which, though, vital, are less fundamental, such as the number of partners permitted? FATHER DAVID WATT Dianella
