Fight the bite
The City’s Mosquito Control Unit has commenced its control and monitoring program for this year’s new breeding season.
As mosquitoes need only a few millimetres to breed, the winter rains have left us all at risk. Now is the time to check any water-filled buckets, ponds, pot plants and swimming pools at your property.
With mosquito borne diseases such as Ross River and Barnah Forrest Virus about, here are some simple measures you can take to protect yourself and fight the bite: • avoid areas where mosquitoes are most active • cover up and wear loose fitting clothing • apply a personal insect repellent • ensure insect screens in your home are in good repair • remove or treat breeding sites around the home – mosquitoes
really love stagnant water.
