JOONDALUP appear to be in a commanding position after a solid first day with bat and ball, keeping Bayswater-Morley to 172 on Saturday at Iluka Sports Complex 1.

Bayswater-Morley were in trouble early after winning the toss and electing to bat, losing three wickets for just 17 runs.

However, Jake Lewis arrived at the crease at number 3 and set about trying to steady the innings.

Although wickets fell with alarming regularity, Lewis fought his way to 91 from 197 as the Bears scrambled to 172, losing their final four wickets for a measly 20 runs.

Joondalup began its innings full of confidence through Garrick Morgan and Andrew South, after bowling the Bears out in just 60 overs.

After Morgan was dismissed for 6, South and Clinton Hinchliffe pushed hard for the remainder of the day, with the home side finishing in the enviable position of 1-58.

Joondalup will continue its run chase on day 2, on Saturday.

Morley Eagles’ Ashleigh Gibbon, Amy Hunt, Jordan Jefferies, Holly Touchell, Sam Bettles and Madison O’Dwyer.
