Shenmue Dojo has uploaded a mini-documentary about the game’s premiere. The film was originally included on the first Dreamcast Express demo disc, available only to members of Japan’s Dreamcast Partners Club. Filmed in 1998, it sees an enthusiastic Yu Suzuki presenting his vision to a large audience in Yokohama – after the Kanagawa Philharmonic sets the mood by playing
Shenmue’s theme. Suzuki talks us through some of the game’s characters as well as its Magic Weather system in a wonderful evocation of the time when demand for what turned out to be Sega’s final console was outstripping supply.
