An All-Range bat­tle within the vicin­ity of a large space sta­tion demon­strates Zero’s new­found ca­pac­ity for spec­ta­cle. Ships swarm the screen and ex­plode spec­tac­u­larly, while your al­lies will call out for help when they can’t shake a tail. Other craft thun­der past your canopy as you make your way to a tar­get, and bat­tles ap­pear to be rag­ing all around you as you tum­ble through space – any of which you can de­cide to take part in. For the most part, cutscenes now play out in real time, too, and you can con­tinue play­ing on the GamePad screen while cin­e­mat­ics oc­cupy the TV. And de­spite its age and chunky an­gles, the Ar­wing re­mains a time­less ship de­sign.
