How immersion, and presence, will trickle down to mobile

While GearVR offers a pared-down version of virtual reality, increasingly more efficient and powerful mobile devices should see the gap close in the near future. “One of the most important things in VR is the ability to move your whole body, not just your head,” says Stuart. “Currently you only get that on the higher-end machines, but in the future there’ll be inside-out tracking on mobile-phone-based devices that can scan the room you’re in, take that data back in and then tell the content that you’re moving your whole body. It’s incredibly processorheavy at the moment, but in the future the mobile phone side of the market, given powerful enough processors, will be able to compete with what Oculus and HTC can do.”
