The Elder Scrolls Legends

Developer/publisher Bethesda Format Android, iPad, PC Release 2016

EDGE - - DISPATCHES PERSPECTIVE -

Announced at Bethesda’s debut E3 conference last year and in PC beta since April, Legends was the obvious pick for the Fallout Shelter role, but there would be no insta-release of the Bethesda card battler. Legends has already missed one release date – in 2015 – and its publisher will only say that it will launch before this year is out.

Perhaps Bethesda is struggling to make a game that wants to hitch a ride on the Hearthstone bandwagon without making it look like quite so brazen a clone. Structurally, thematically and visually imperceptible from its inspiration, save for the way it replaces Blizzard’s cartoony style with

The Elder Scrolls’ grimy fantasy, there’s a shocking lack of imagination on display here. The sole saving grace may be the singleplayer campaign, but like

Fallout Shelter this feels like a box-ticking exercise.
