El­liott talks fig­ures – and is re­fresh­ingly open about it


For cam­paigns that it sup­ports through Kick­starter, Square Enix asks for five per cent of net funds raised. This goes to­wards the costs of the due dili­gence process. A base­line mar­ket­ing in­vest­ment is around $100,000, which Square Enix would look to re­coup in a 70/30 share with the devel­oper. There­after, ten per cent of Square Enix’s rev­enue goes to its ad­ver­tis­ing part­ner, US cre­ative agency Petrol. Any prof­its raised are in­vested back into the Col­lec­tive. “For us, it’s not about money,” El­liott says. “It’s about build­ing re­la­tion­ships and try­ing to find new ta­lent, ei­ther for us to work with or just to help peo­ple get from the first rung to the sec­ond rung of the lad­der.”
