Choos­ing the three start­ing char­ac­ters in the game – Gan­dalf, Bat­man and Wyld­style – was a long and ar­du­ous process. The team went through nu­mer­ous dif­fer­ent con­fig­u­ra­tions, some of which in­cluded Lord Of The Rings’ Le­go­las, DC Comics’ Su­per­man and even Bat­man vil­lain Har­ley Quinn. “We needed three strong and dif­fer­ent char­ac­ters for both me­chan­i­cal and sto­ry­telling pur­poses,” Par­sons ex­plains. “The per­son­al­i­ties need to be com­ple­men­tary: one old, one slow, one funny, one fighty and so on.” Even­tu­ally, af­ter tak­ing nu­mer­ous sur­veys with play­ers, the team set­tled on the core trio, which mim­ics that of the 2014 Warner Bros film, The Lego Movie.
