The quick­est way to progress and un­lock new moun­tains is to com­pete in events. Th­ese come in six dif­fer­ent va­ri­eties, which are tai­lored to­wards spe­cific playstyles, though you can’t re­ally af­ford to ig­nore too many of the kinds you’re less keen on since you ac­crue XP much more slowly else­where. Our habit of fin­ish­ing events by sim­ply car­ry­ing on down the moun­tain meant we ranked up as an Ex­plorer a lit­tle sooner than in the Ex­treme Rider cat­e­gory, though by happy ac­ci­dent we ended up dou­bling as a Bone Col­lec­tor. As you level up and com­plete events you’ll earn new gear, but with no stats to boost, they’re an en­tirely cos­metic con­cern. Reach­ing the level cap of 25, how­ever, is worth the ef­fort: your re­ward is un­lim­ited he­li­copter tick­ets.
