With the aim of sim­u­lat­ing big com­mu­ni­ties of player-con­trolled char­ac­ters, Seed tasks play­ers with colonis­ing an alien planet in a post-Earth fu­ture. De­vel­oped by a team founded by three CCP alumni, Seed ap­plies Eve On­line’s am­bi­tion to the hu­man scale. You’ll be order­ing up to ten char­ac­ters to chop wood and cre­ate items and build­ings, the game man­ag­ing them in re­al­time so you can log off and let them get on with things, in­clud­ing re­spond­ing to po­ten­tial at­tacks from other play­ers. “We want play­ers to work to­gether, to build solid com­mu­ni­ties to­gether con­tin­u­ously,” says Mundi Vondi, who imag­ines emer­gent sit­u­a­tions such as a gang of play­ers kid­nap­ping a char­ac­ter from an en­emy group and hold­ing them to ran­som for re­sources. He also hopes for play­ers to con­struct to­gether. “The ul­ti­mate dream for us is to have ac­tual cities, with all their mov­ing parts run­ning on a mul­ti­player server.”
