A wan­der­ing ar­chae­ol­o­gist in­tro­duces a wel­come vari­a­tion on Golf Story’s me­chan­i­cal tem­plate. First he is­sues you with a scan­ner so you can hunt down your quarry, and then asks you to un­earth it us­ing your ap­pro­pri­ately named dig­ging wedge. This in­volves a short minigame of timed but­ton presses, hit­ting a zone that gets smaller as you progress. Hardly world-chang­ing stuff, but the re­wards are worth it, and it’s at least some­thing dif­fer­ent to the three-shot power sys­tem that forms the meat of the game – and most of its bones, too.
