ISLE OF FIGHT

-

Like the MOBAs and battle royales it shares DNA with, Crucible launches with a solitary map. It’s a little smaller than an average battle royale island, and less open, with rocky outcrops that block sightlines and funnel you towards objectives. This is the Crucible of the title – an alien world with DayGlo-bright flora and fauna, knotted mangroves and trees big enough to make a redwood wilt. It’s all organic curves, which means you can use Hunters’ movement abilities, which vary from dashes to teleports, to reach places you feel you’re not supposed to be. There’s a trial-and-error process of guessing which character each gap has been calibrated for; it feels designed to reward long-term players but is frustrating in the meantime.
