THE cult collab

-

As one of the most popular names in beauty right now, there was never any doubt that skincare brand Drunk Elephant’s extension into a new category would whip its cult following into a frenzy. What nobody could anticipate was that its move into haircare would come courtesy of a collaboration with one of the world’s most famous hairstylists, Chris Mcmillan – the man responsible for The Rachel, one of the most defining hairstyles of the ’90s. “Chris floated the idea of us doing a hair line together, and as time went on I had found myself wishing I had hair products that adhered to the same philosophy [as our skincare] – we avoid commonly used ingredients that can be problematic,” explains Drunk Elephant founder Tiffany Masterson. “For the hair range, our main focus is the health of the scalp, so I made sure that each ingredient was not only safe, but also biocompatible with the scalp. This means it can be easily recognised and benefitted from without irritation, sensitisation, congestion or build-up. So you won’t find essential oils, fragrance, dyes, silicones, SLS/SLES, drying alcohol or chemical screens in there.” The products are designed to work as a system, hence the tight edit of options. And while history dictates that anything the brand releases is destined for success, if you’re only looking to buy one product from the range? “I do really love the exfoliating scalp scrub,” Masterson admits.
