Drive to save life

A BONE mar­row drive to save the life of young Ave­ley boy Kai Nell will be held in El­len­brook next Thurs­day.

The three-year-old was di­ag­nosed with high-risk acute myeloid leukaemia in July for the sec­ond time in a year. He un­der­went a bone mar­row trans­plant last year, but needs an­other to sur­vive.

Kai’s fam­ily were hop­ing to hear last week he had gone into re­mis­sion, but were told there were still leukaemia cells present.

Kai has gone back to Princess Mar­garet Hos­pi­tal for more chemo­ther­apy this week and will un­dergo a bone mar­row trans­plant later in the year us­ing his in­fant brother’s blood cells, if a suit­able adult match is not found.

The drive will be held on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 22, from 1.30pm to 6pm at WA Den­tal, 3/150 Coola­mon Boule­vard, El­len­brook.
