Pre­pare kit and get bush­fire ready, lo­cals urged

AS the warmer months ap­proach, Shire of Chit­ter­ing is urg­ing lo­cals to get ‘bush­fire ready’ by en­sur­ing emer­gency kits are pre­pared.

The Shire rec­om­mends the kit is kept in a stor­age con­tainer some­where eas­ily ac­ces­si­ble.

It should in­clude a por­ta­ble bat­tery-op­er­ated AM-FM ra­dio, a wa­ter­proof torch, spare batteries, a first-aid kit with man­ual, can­dles with wa­ter­proof matches, woollen blan­kets, emer­gency con­tact num­ber and sup­plies for your pet/s such as a leash, food and bed.

Mean­while, the Shire has also an­nounced its Fire Man­age­ment Team for 2016-17.

The chief bush fire con­trol of­fi­cer will be com­mu­nity emer­gency ser­vices man­ager Jamie O’Neil, who will be backed by three deputies.

Ian Hol­lick will be the south­ern re­gion’s rep­re­sen­ta­tive, Phillip Humphry for the cen­tral re­gion and Greg Cock­ing for the north­ern re­gion.

Thir­teen other of­fi­cers have also been ap­pointed through­out the re­gion. They are not obliged to is­sue per­mits and may ad­vise on al­ter­na­tives to burn­ing.
