Prepare kit and get bushfire ready, locals urged
AS the warmer months approach, Shire of Chittering is urging locals to get ‘bushfire ready’ by ensuring emergency kits are prepared.
The Shire recommends the kit is kept in a storage container somewhere easily accessible.
It should include a portable battery-operated AM-FM radio, a waterproof torch, spare batteries, a first-aid kit with manual, candles with waterproof matches, woollen blankets, emergency contact number and supplies for your pet/s such as a leash, food and bed.
Meanwhile, the Shire has also announced its Fire Management Team for 2016-17.
The chief bush fire control officer will be community emergency services manager Jamie O’Neil, who will be backed by three deputies.
Ian Hollick will be the southern region’s representative, Phillip Humphry for the central region and Greg Cocking for the northern region.
Thirteen other officers have also been appointed throughout the region. They are not obliged to issue permits and may advise on alternatives to burning.
