TEENAGER Harrison McIntyre has become Ellenbrook’s newest national champion, after taking out a gold medal at the Australian National Taekwondo Championships in Victoria last month.

His winning efforts mean he will represent Australia in the sparring division at the Oceania Championships in Fiji in November.

Harrison (14) has trained at the Charles Rawlins Taekwondo Centre in Beechboro since he was seven.

Coach Charles Rawlins said Harrison was aiming for the top.

“Harry has a lot of potential, and has that desire and determination that could take him far in the sport,” he said.

“He trains five days a week, as well as helping me out with classes for children at the Aveley Community Centre.”

Rawlins said Harrison had another event coming up to help him prepare for the Oceania Championships.

“Harry will compete in the Malaysian Open this week, which is a very highly ranked championship against competitors from 14 other countries,” he said.

“This young man’s dream is one day to represent Australia at the Olympics, and we wish him all the best and tell him to follow that dream.”
